Hiking Time: Approximately 6-8 hours

After an early breakfast, you will depart from Arusha and drive towards the spectacular landscapes of Lake Natron, passing through remote Maasai villages, open plains, and the dramatic scenery of the Great Rift Valley.
Upon arrival in the Oldonyo Lengai area, you will have some time to rest and prepare for the climb. The actual ascent normally begins during the night or in the very early hours of the morning, when temperatures are cooler and the conditions are more suitable for climbing.
Under the guidance of your experienced mountain guide, you will begin the steep ascent of Oldonyo Lengai. The trail becomes increasingly demanding as you climb the volcanic slopes, requiring a steady pace and good physical endurance.
As dawn approaches, you will continue towards the summit. Reaching the top around sunrise offers an unforgettable reward for the effort of the climb. From the summit, you can admire the extraordinary volcanic landscape and sweeping views across the Great Rift Valley, Lake Natron, and the surrounding wilderness.
Oldonyo Lengai is particularly special because it is one of the few active volcanoes in the world that produces carbonatite lava, making the mountain not only culturally significant but also geologically fascinating.
After spending some time at the summit and enjoying the views, you will begin the descent. The downhill journey is considerably faster, although the steep volcanic terrain still requires care and concentration.
